ART AND CLUTTER
by Robert Kernodle What I am about to say will disturb a lot of people— many of those people will be artists. What I suggest hits at the heart of art. It threatens the very foundation of it. There simply is no other conclusion that I can reach. I speak as an artist myself, and in the relatively short time that I have taken on this role, I have noticed some things: (1) I keep getting ideas. (2) I end up sorting through to the best ones. (3) I make a piece of art based on these ideas. (4) I do this over and over again. (5) I see pieces mount up in storage. (6) I display some of the pieces in galleries. (7) I do an occasional solo show. (8) I get a few of the pieces publicized in yearbooks. (9) While the pieces mount up, I get more ideas for others. Finally, I raise the question: Where do I put all these creations? I’m out of room. The market for potential buyers is very limited and overtaxed by multitudes of other artists, many of whom are more established or more successful than me. What do I do with the results of my work: all of my gut-wrenching discoveries, late-night problem solving, "aha!" moments, accidental solutions, fulfilling resolutions and visions realized more or less out of pure good intentions? That’s when it hits me: (1) The world is only so big. (2) Only so many people at a time can be accommodated. (3) More people are doing art than ever before. (4) The creative urge is running rampant. (5) Civilization is being inundated with new art. As I mingle with other artists in one of the galleries where I’m shown, a fellow creative asks me, "Is that an old piece . . . one of your earlier works?" To which I reply, "What’s old? I’ve done it in my lifetime, I’m still alive, and it’s still a part of me. To make any more pieces now would only clutter up the world." And thus I come to my point, which is that art is really a higher form of pollution and a burden to society, when it reaches a certain density. An artist today cannot afford the luxury of being prolific. Ethically, he/she has a duty to limit production, just as parents have a duty in an overpopulated world to limit their number of offspring. Again, I might disturb people with these statements, but I believe that somebody needs to say them. Artists need to ask themselves how what they do affects the world. Obviously, some sort of recycling has to occur, but what does this mean: (1) Creation limited by actual sales? (2) Creation limited by quality control? (3) Creation limited by voluntary destruction of works? (4) Creation limited by fewer works done per artist? To ignore such questions is to ignore reality. Not only is the issue of present-day art in question, but also the issue of past-day art. How much of this can we possibly store and deal with? As civilization continues to thrive, more and more contemporary art will become antique art. How do we handle it? Twice, I have come close to destroying all of my own paintings, making the act of disposal the true art. I fancy myself being so bold as to say that the most ethically responsible art has no material substance, that to release the material, to part with substance is to possess the greatest essence of all, that to create more space rather than more matter is the sort of art we need today. Sadly, though, I’m not there yet. I’m weak. I’m still tied to what my work stands for, rather than being satisfied with how it moves things along. I’m in a dilemma. I’m not tortured by this dilemma, but I keep coming back to it. I keep coming back to the question: How much art can a civilization tolerate, before art is not art anymore? We've all heard the saying to gain a positive you also need a negative. Some philosophy! That's true if you're installing a new car battery. The origin of the term "positive" is Latin and refers to laws. A positive attitude can be developed and it does not mean to exclude ourselves of empathy. For example, your car breaks down in the middle of Somewhere Road and Nowhere Drive and all you have are jumper cables and a cell phone. Or perhaps you're driving and see someone else in that situation. What should or would you do first? You have those two resources and then you become one to help the person or yourself. You begin to see it possible to help remedy the situation. Specifically, if you know that the car battery light indicator is on in the dashboard. The reality is that with somethings, we never seen it coming. What's the point? Everyone is a divine solution to something or someone else in the world. "I AM definitely in the positive energy business" Things happen and when they do, we should try to be as prepared as much as we can. Easier said then done, I know. However, with practice and a change in heart, we can view the responsibilities we have to ourselves, family, community, career or otherwise and see things more clearly and as it builds our resolve and with confidence; the ability to handle cares. The gifts we all have are really solutions. There is truly nothing more joyful than discovering purpose. Today, we've added a motivational video by "Kid President" of Soul Pancakes. Such an inspiration for all. Great presentation and story! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4z7gDsSKUmU We can all resolve to align with positive energies and in making the world a better place. Ask me why, the Butterfly. To be torn and sworn; as to transform is the norm. Ask me why, the Butterfly. To see the difference from repentance. Ask me why, the Butterfly. Gathering strength from the inside, discerning peace, emerging stronger and wiser; a kinder beast. Ask me why, the Butterfly. A journey ends, a new one begins. Ask me why, the Butterfly. What's new in and for 2016? Just ahead! Evaluate your progress. Were there any obstacles, distractions, haters, supporters, new experiences; relationships that helped move you or your idea forward in 2015? And, how you have served others as well. Now, as in any is the time to take inventory of authentic kindness. We're continuing to build partnerships in volunteering efforts. It is our mission and goal to be of service to other community organizations who are in alignment with our vision and purpose. 2015 was a very productive year as we continue to engage and have a better understanding as to where our contributions work best in serving the community and the need for entrepreneurs to pool resources to be of service. New projects are just the beginning. Existing projects can be modified for the future. The most exciting aspect of serving the community is that letter, phone call communication requesting your business to serve. We all have something positive and special that can change the world we live in and the world inside our mind. Here are a few buzz word suggestions while fulfilling your mission, vision and dream. Some may have already been discovered as necessary components. Whichever works best for you, expansion is the key. During the course of a lifetime, people will come to notice and understand what is really important and will eventually see themselves gravitate to a need or cause that will make a significant difference in the community and the world-at-large. It is what true humanity is built for. What if you are chosen? What if you're also that person who will help lead efforts that will ultimately and generously support humankind? How does or would it make you feel? Great of course, however, it is not about those individuals. Instead, it is more about the people, community and organization on the receiving end of your kindness and compassion. The servant leader who radically believes in and honors their purpose and appreciates yours. Philanthropy is an awesome experience and opportunity. What are some of your charity organizations of choice to give to and support? The season of giving is every day. We are humbled and inspired as servant leadership. If you keep destiny tuning your purpose, it will reveal itself one moment at a time. Kind of reminds me of the monologue from the characters of Petey Greene and Dewey Hughes in the film "Talk to Me" which quotes, "I need you to say the things that I'm afraid to say and you need me to do the things that you're afraid to do". Yes, that one. Imagine if the whole world said that. Faith Works! ~Design Image Credit: http://philanthropistlist.com/2014/05/top-15-famous-philanthropy-quotes/ We’re such a firm believer that good energy is a great way to start and end every day. And it is possible. If you don’t have good energy ask yourself why. Well, what if you’re not feeling like feeling great about good energy, does that make me a bad person you may ask. There is a huge difference between good energy and not feeling good. What are they? Good energy is when you are or have mastered the concept of thoughts producing things. It is metaphysical. Not feeling good is subsequently physical because your mind is convinced that you are not well although we possess the infinite power to change the circumstances. Anything suppressed will manifest throughout the body called dis-ease. We welcome all to a new day. And if you’re tired of not feeling good, to a new way. If you’re tired of being sick and tired. YOU have the power to change it. I won’t use UNICEF’s tag line, “A mind is a terrible thing to waste”. Wow, we just did. Is it kind or true? Something about the tone is insensitive. Anyhow, on with the point. What inspires you? Are you ready to rock your brand? Wish to move in another direction of your personal and professional life? We would like to share two (word) suggestions to begin the process of changing your life. It is a frequency. Hope you find them valuable to your decision. Gratitude Take inventory of everything you have to be grateful for Integrity Decide that serving is more important than leading. Servants are actually leaders. Think about it. We chose these terms because every human being possess them. Sometimes, we have to work hard to discover and find our way to them in character. The world as we know can be a distraction from who we were truly meant to become. Your divinity, it shines. Faith works! ~ Design Image Credit: http://www.bestsayingsquotes.com/category/smile-picture-quotes-and-sayings-7.html From time to time we're asked; where exactly is our idea and business headed?
Our reaction and response will mostly be; is that the appropriate time to share the business plan? If you are also on the Entrepreneurs journey, expect this question a lot if you decide to share it; and do not for one second and by no means believe that it suggests that your company demonstrates an incapacity to manage the direction of your dreams. Understanding the statement in the visual has more substance, value and context than it appears. Ever reflect at how far you’ve come to where you are now? The journey? The experiences that it took to get there? Visualize it. Some document the events and people they’ve met on the way of obtaining and achieving success. However, many times, the Entrepreneur goes it alone much of the time until they began to network, associate and introduce their products and services to the community. Whether your ideas are up and down, stay connected. Be in the right circles and astute. Information is power and you never know who may be sitting in the audience. Keep building and sustaining the relationships that are win-win. Somehow, it seems as if we’ve said this before. Remember lessons learned. Always keep praying. There is bound to be a breakthrough. Focus. We ALL have our assignment and if we keep asking for it, guess what? You will find it. Sometimes we expect the answers to our life's purpose to show up directly. Nope! Many times it's indirectly and through a difference source than we thought. Through people you’ve never met until you hear that question? Always remember that when something or someone leaves, something new is being birthed through you or to you. Where are you going? Or should the question really be, where are you growing? A great question. Decode. #FaithWorks ~Design Image Credit: http://agilelife.com.au/where-are-you-going/ We're a day late! We posts Wednesdays! That is what we’ve said! Is there an excuse? No. And why not? Because excuses is a thing of the past. Even when life throws us a curve ball, and sometimes it will; there is none. Or maybe there is, yet we choose not to explain and to just deal it. How do you choose? And as much as we like to refrain from the term failure, it will always appear in the dictionary.
Hello everyone! We hope that you have started this day marvelously. We also want you to know that even when life throws that curve ball, we should try to stand firm and not be afraid if we strike out. Yes, strike out. It happens. Well, what does that mean? It suggests that even through the toughest of life experiences and challenges, we have the ability to bounce back, stand tall and get ready at the plate and attempt to hit a home run. Sending the obstacles and distractions packing! Or in some instances, find closure to a situation. And in those circumstances, take the time that's needed to begin again. We all can begin again. We begin again. We never give up. We use this analogy as a confidence booster, motivational; an esteem builder because believe it or not, some things in life create disappointment and sadness and it pains to endure. Rediscovering and recognizing the power we all have within produces to make healing and success miraculously. Everything we experience is to strengthen our resolve. Peace in and during the storms. God Bless moving forward. You can begin again. ~ FaithWorks #Design Image Credit: http://www.pinterest.com Links: http://quotesgram.com/begin-again-quotes/ |
